No man’s life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session.”
- Judge Gideon J. Tucker (1866)
In 1965, the Florida Chapters of the Associated General Contractors (“AGC”) of America joined together to form the Florida AGC Council. The Council provides the organization through which Florida AGC members unite and take action on issues of statewide importance.
Year in and year out, the Council plays an active role in pushing, shaping, or defeating important state legislation and regulation that affects the bottom line of every general contractor in Florida.

The “Good Stuff" We Pass
The “Bad Stuff " We Battle
- Reducing your liability exposure on projects, down from 15 years to 10 years
- A legal ban on “pay-when-paid” clauses in all construction contracts
- Repealing joint and several liability, which made you pay more than your fair share in lawsuits
- Statutory caps on retainage and mandatory “line-item” release of retainage
- Worker’s compensation insurance reform, resulting in significant premium reductions
- Lien law changes, that would make it even more difficult to manage your projects
While there are literally dozens of trade associations and lobbyists in Tallahassee representing the interests of owners, subcontractors, and suppliers, there is only one organization dedicated to representing Florida’s commercial general contractors:
The Florida AGC Council!
But the Florida AGC Council cannot continue to enjoy these successes without the participation of each and every general contractor in the State of Florida. How can you help?
Join your local AGC chapter and get involved in the pressing issues facing the state’s construction industry. With an entire state to cover, that’s 40 state senators, 120 state representatives, and a Governor and Cabinet – Your industry needs you, TODAY!
